Job Title: Project Engineering Manager

Location: Sellafield, Cumbria

Salary: circa £55,000 per annum + Excellent Benefits

Job Type: Full Time, Fixed Term Contract (4 years)

Working Hours: 39 hours

They are now looking to recruit for a Project Engineering Manager to organize, lead, coordinate and direct a multi-discipline design engineering team (including technical, safety case and supply chain as applicable) that delivers engineering design work packages (specification, analysis, verification or assessment of engineering).

Main Responsibilities


Resource forecasting, demand, assignment and deployment:

* Generating periodic forecasts of design resource needs for direct team and portfolio up to next decision point (gate for project work and performance plan for other).
* Establishing design delivery strategies for the assigned portfolio.
* Deploying design resources in line with resource strategy to maintain knowledge and understanding of work delivered.

People performance, development and competence:

* Line manager duties for supervision and performance of direct reports and team members (Control of work task/assignments - supervised, able, trained & competent to do assigned tasks).
* Providing input to annual performance reviews of discipline portfolio-assigned staff
* Promoting best practice and the sharing of portfolio-specific LFE across the engineering business and sharing of external LFE with the portfolio team.
* Managing team and portfolio workload such that time is available to attend communication, training and development sessions.

Work assignment and delivery:

* Input to and review of work packaging, tender selection, tender submissions for procurement of design services and equipment.
* Assigns approval of technical content of documents to competent persons or groups
* Managing the interactions of design work, documents and solutions to align both within the portfolio and with interfaces and dependant work, documents, solutions and existing plant and equipment under the control of others.
* Specifying, supervising and reviewing work performed by alliance or contracted work involving design services.

Quality of work and output:

* Organises, leads, directs and integrates the development of fit for purpose, timely and affordable design solutions that deliver the functional specification, safely and legally.
* Managing the generation of design deliverables that define and preserve the design intent and are organised and align with the plant configuration.
* Identifying appropriate design and engineering standards and practices to be used for the delivery of portfolio.
* Specifying the level of verification and validation necessary to underpin design solutions that meet the safety, engineering and operational needs (including reviews).
* Identification and management of engineering, technical and safety case risks that affect delivery of the portfolio and the longer term performance of the engineering in service through to end of life.

Cost & schedule:

* Leading the development of the engineering elements of the project/task baseline scope, schedule and budget.
* Establishing and maintaining control of the engineering baseline (scope, schedule and budget) via appropriate change control process.
* Monitoring, reviewing and reporting on engineering status (including technical and safety case), progress against schedules and implementing corrective and recovery actions.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills/Qualifications

* Degree qualified in an appropriate discipline or relevant equivalent experience in a specific field
* Ability to understand the technical solutions that are pragmatic and can be delivered on plant.
* Good working knowledge of all disciplines of engineering and working laboratories.
* Ability to proactively design, plan and carry out engineering design work.
* Excellent communication skills
* Good track record in delivering engineering solutions

Desirable Skills/Qualifications

* Chartered Engineer
* APMP Qualification
